Summer Programs for Kids in Bozeman

by Liz Nitz

Young, enthusiastic bikers in Bozeman Youth Cycling.

Looking for active and engaging summer programs for kids in Bozeman? Here are some of the most popular and fun summer programs for kids of all ages. And many of them offer full-day camps, which is great for working parents. Many 2021 summer programs have opened up for registration, so be sure to make your plans early.

Summer Programs for Kids in Bozeman

Jurassic Lab (Ages 3-8; 2nd through 6th grades) Camps run from the beginning of June to the end of August. They are conveniently blocked out in four-day increments and offer early drop-0ff and late pick-up. The camps for 2nd through 6th grades feature field trips around Gallatin Valley and have fun themes like What Makes Our Bodies Run and Nerf Camp! From $145 to $200/week.

Lone Mountain Summer Camps (Ages 3-11) This gymnastics studio hosts super fun camps that get the heart rate up and the energy out. The gymnastics-friendly camps feature ninja obstacle courses, trampolines, balance beams, bars and mat movement.  There’s also Campapalooza for kids who just want to run around at the park and swim. The one guarantee is that your kids will be tired at the end of the day. Camps are four-day blocks, starting in June to August. From $90 to $260.

Camp Equinox (Ages 1st through 8th grades) If you have a thespian in your brood, this coveted acting camp won’t disappoint. Husband and wife team, Katie Goodman & Soren Kisiel are award-winning playwrights, actors, theater teachers and authors. They travel around the country teaching workshops and come to Bozeman each summer to teach kids how to find their creative outlet through musical comedy, film acting, mask-making, puppetry, play-writing and comedy improv. It’s an intense program, but I have heard from friends that their kids beg to go back every summer. Hurry, because it fills up early. From $490 (half-day, four weeks) to $765 (full-day, four weeks); $1430 for all eight weeks. Payment plans available.

Museum of the Rockies (1st through 8th grades) This is one of the most popular summer programs for kids in Bozeman. It features outdoor classrooms and experiment spaces to learn about history and science, meet new friends, create crafts and play active games in the setting of Bozeman’s premier museum. There are four- and five-day camp options, with rotating themes like Astronauts in Training, Disgusting Science and Junior Paleontologists. From $175 to $255, museum members receive a discount.

Bozeman Youth Cycling (Ages 1st through 5th grades) Blocked out into two, five-week sessions. This is a great summer program for young mountain bikers of all skill levels. Your child will get the opportunity to explore Bozeman’s local trails and learn key bike-handling skills. From $105 to $180 for five-week sessions that meet twice a week.

Montana Wildnerness School (Ages 14-18) This summer program is a unique experience for your child to see the raw beauty of the Montana wilderness and foster a deeper connection to nature through exploratory, outdoor learning. Groups are typically 8-10 students with 2-3 instructors. Your child does not need previous experience with backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing, pack rafting or canoeing. The courses range from 10-21 days in length. This year’s expeditions include interesting options like Missouri River Adventure, Yellowstone Expedition and Horsepacking Expedition. Tuition varies depending on the expedition you choose. Check Website for more details.
