Well hopefully now that winter is really over, after our snow storm the week of May 8, it’s time to look at what the summer fun lies ahead using the Drift as our basecamp.
The 2024 fishing forecast looks awesome and should get started in earnest a little earlier than last year. Our snowpack is lighter than 2023 but water levels at Hebgen Lake are high which coupled with a warm June, should bring out those hatches and lead to great fishing all the way until October.   Can’t wait to take in those incredible Madison Valley views while fishing my favorite river!
Hiking in Madison Valley is also great.  There’s a good chance that you won’t run across many people on these trails as they are a bit off the beaten track for most. Some recommended trails are the South Fork Trail to Pioneer Falls in the Custer Gallatin National Forest, the challenging Helmet and Sphinx Mountain Trail or Trail Creek in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
For a little in town entertainment, try the annual events in the town of Ennis.
May 18 TAP into Ennis MT Craft Beer, Spirits & Wine Festival
July 4th July 4th Main Street Stampede and Parade
July 3rd and 4th Ennis Rodeo – western rodeo, bull riding, steer roping, barrel racing
August 24 Fly Fishing & Outdoors Festival
Every Thursday 5 -7 pm – Music in the Park
Before heading out on adventure, enjoy coffee while seeing the breathtaking views as the sun rises over the Madison Range. Then it’s just a quick trip to the put in or trailhead from your conveniently located residence at The Drift.
